Danielle Cauley, Licensed Professional Counselor
Everyone always asks me, "what exactly does a therapist even do?"  You may even be asking yourself the same thing. My explanation is directly tied to why I chose this profession.....

A therapist to me is a guide.  Someone that can give you a safe, judgement free, and professional space to work on past issues, current stressors, and everything in-between.  See, the really cool thing about a therapist is that we are objective!  If you wanted a mountain of advice, opinions, or half-hearted solutions, you'd go to your friends or family.  And although friends and family are awesome, working on yourself requires vulnerability, and who wants to do that with friends and family?  It is so encouraging to see the amount of progress someone can make when the fear of judgement is removed.

Plus, we all have layers!  Sometimes it takes another person to help us peel those layers away to discover our true self.  I believe learning how to tap into our strengths can help us uncover our real selves.  This is primarily why I strive to support my clients through a strength-based and holistic approach to therapy.  I know that finding one missing piece to the puzzle doesn't complete the picture.  Working on your physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, and environmental aspects are all important in order to start feeling better!

In addition to talk therapy, I also enjoy using some experiential therapies such as therapy outdoors, Mandala, meditation, and mindfulness.

Asking for help is the first step in the journey and I would be honored to have the opportunity to travel with you on that path.

I hold a Master's in Education in Community Counseling from the College of William and Mary.  I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia as well as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor.  I have worked in both private inpatient as well as community outpatient substance abuse programs.  I have trained with Postpartum Support Virginia on Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders and currently reside as a board member for the organization.  I am looking forward to working with you!
