Everyone always asks me, "what exactly does a therapist even do?" You may even be asking yourself the same thing. My explanation is directly tied to why I chose this profession.....
A therapist to me, is a guide. Someone that can give you a safe, judgement free, and professional space to work on past issues, current stressors, and everything in-between. See, the really cool thing about a therapist is that we are objective! If you wanted a mountain of advice, opinions, or half-hearted solutions, you'd go to your friends or family. And although friends and family are awesome, working on yourself requires vulnerability, and who wants to do that with friends and family? It is so encouraging to see the amount of progress someone can make when the fear of judgement is removed.
Plus, we all have layers! Sometimes it takes another person to help us peel those layers away to discover our true self. I employ a strength-based approach to therapy with a hefty dose of directness, and a big scoop of humor (and the occasional profanity.) If you’re looking for someone who can call you on your crap and warmly guide you through it, I am your girl!
My specific interest is working with those in the perinatal time period of their life. This can be exploring the idea of children, trying to grow your family, infertility, pregnant or neonatal loss, perinatal depression or anxiety, postpartum recovery and transition, birth trauma, and overall transition to parenthood. Other areas of specific focus include relational boundaries, large life transitions, intimacy struggles, anxiety and depression, and career/life balance exploration. I pull from a variety of treatment modalities and also am trained in Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) as well as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for the treatment of trauma and/or OCD.
Asking for help is the first step in the journey and I would be honored to have the opportunity to travel with you on that path.
I hold a Master's in Education in Community Counseling from the College of William and Mary. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia, a certified Perinatal Mental Health therapist through Postpartum Support International as well as a Certified Substance Abuse therapist through the state of Virginia.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family & friends, camping, card making, being active, and staying highly involved in the community! Some of my joys include good Mexican food, Alani Nu on a tired day, a relaxing day by the creek, or a business lunch that includes Cava!
I look forward to working with you!

Rachel Sims
Resident in Counseling
Resident in Marriage/Family Therapy
National Certified Counselor (NCC)
Main Focuses: Perinatal Mental Health, Infertility, Perinatal Grief & Loss, Birth Trauma, Couples Therapy, Life Transitions, Anxiety/Depression, Relationship/Social struggles.
Therapy is collaborative, and we’ll work together to determine how I can best support you and the specific challenges you are experiencing. Together, we’ll explore your story, identify unhelpful themes and patterns, and find ways to help you find meaning and purpose in the midst of difficult experiences.
I am especially passionate about perinatal mental health and supporting mothers and couples through pregnancy, postpartum, transitions and adjustments, infertility, and grief and loss. My personal experience of becoming a mother during the pandemic while living in a foreign country informs my work, and I am sensitive to the unique challenges of motherhood and those experiencing multiple relocations and adjustments. I provide individual therapy for adults as well as marriage/couples counseling.
I believe true wellness must be holistic and purposeful, incorporating the physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual elements of being human. I also work from an attachment perspective, and believe healthy and strong relationships are central to wellbeing. Our work together may explore phase-of-life adjustments, relationships and attachment, social isolation/connection, narratives and your story, and the ways emotions and thoughts inform behavior, among others! Types of counseling theories I most often pull from are emotion-focused couples therapy, person-centered therapy, and elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy and narrative therapy.
I would be honored to walk with you on your journey!
I have advanced training in perinatal mental health (Postpartum Support International), emotionally-focused couples therapy (ICEEFT Therapist), and family counseling. I hold a master’s degree in couples, marriage and family counseling from William & Mary, am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) in the US, and am a Resident in Counseling & Resident in Marriage/Family Therapy under supervision with Danielle Cauley, LPC, PMHC in Virginia.

Harleigh Humphries
Resident in Counseling
Main Focuses: Anxiety management, depression, improving communication and assertiveness, self-esteem/self confidence, improving relationship/marital relationships, stress management/burnout and life transitions, perfectionism, teen/college transitions.
To me, therapy is an incredibly unique and personalized experience. I’m a firm believer that therapy looks different for every person and there is no “one size fits all” approach. Everyone has a different story, a different experience, and a different lens in which they view the world from. From those stories and experiences is how you develop your belief system and responses to situations. Because you see things from your own point of view, I believe it’s important to have a therapist who will meet you where you’re at and work with you at your pace.
Taking the first step into therapy can be a scary and overwhelming process for anyone. Even if this isn't your first therapy rodeo, meeting with a new therapist can be daunting. I strive to create a space for you where you feel comfortable to express yourself as you work towards your own goals for therapy. Therapy can explore very vulnerable parts of ourselves and making sure you feel supported and validated is so important.
I see clients from all walks of life but my areas of focus are adolescents and adults who are working through anxiety and depression, stress, and relationship concerns. I am very passionate about couples work and enhancing relationships through improving communication and strengthening your connection.
Therapeutically, I like to sprinkle in techniques from multiple modalities to best meet your goals. This may look like using cognitive-behavioral techniques to explore the connection between our thoughts and behaviors while also paying attention to the strong importance of our emotions and how they affect our whole self. Your brain, your thoughts, your emotions, and your body all play a piece in how you experience and view the world and your relationships.
I hold a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University and am a Resident in Counseling in the state of Virginia under supervision with Danielle Cauley, LPC, PMHC.
Off the therapy couch, I’m an avid equestrian. I play polo and I love working with thoroughbred racehorses both on the racetrack and helping find them new careers once they retire from racing. When not riding, I can be found playing with my three dogs and baking a variety of sweet treats!

Hi, I’m Brittany – Your Down-to-Earth Guide for Life’s Messy, Meaningful Moments
Whether you're figuring out who you are after becoming a parent, working through old emotional wounds, trying to feel more connected in your relationships, or just learning how to breathe through the chaos—I’m here to walk alongside you. My approach to therapy feels like a real conversation: full of honesty, empathy, a little humor, and zero judgment.
I’m especially passionate about working with perinatal clients, because I know firsthand how complex and tender this season can be. From identity shifts and emotional ups and downs, to postpartum overwhelm and the mental load of motherhood—I hold space for it all. You don’t have to have it all together here.
Outside of perinatal work, I also love working with:
Teens navigating emotions and self-discovery
Confidence, self-esteem & boundary building
Anxiety, depression, and people-pleasing patterns
Life transitions and rediscovering your voice
Military life and transitions
My goal is never to “fix” you. Instead, I meet you right where you are and help you reconnect with your own strength, clarity, and sense of self. I use evidence-based techniques like CBT, IPT, DBT, and mindfulness, but I also believe in the healing power of feeling truly seen and heard.
I hold a Master’s in Social Work and am currently a Supervisee in Clinical Social Work in Virginia.
Outside of therapy, I’m probably soaking up time with my family, rewatching a favorite show, or creating mental health content to support others on their healing journeys.
If you’re ready for a space where you can feel safe, supported, and truly you—let’s connect. I’d be honored to be part of your journey.

I believe that seeking therapy is a brave first step towards change. Maybe you’ve tried to do it alone but you still feel stuck, therapy can offer a safe place to tell your story. Therapy should be a collaborative experience since you are the expert in your own life and I am a guide to get you where you want to be. Together we will explore your goals, areas of need, and past experiences that are impacting current beliefs- many times leading to current dissatisfaction. My approach is eclectic. I use various evidence- based modalities that are tailored to each individual.
I use elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help my clients see the connection between thoughts, emotions and behavior.

Alexis Kauffman
William & Mary Student Intern
Main Focuses: Teen/College aged struggles (academic stress, perfectionism), body image/self-confidence/disordered eating, perinatal mental health, women’s issues, anxiety/depression
I believe therapy is a collaborative and courageous journey. Whether or not it’s your first time attending counseling or a return to the process, taking the step to work with a therapist can be daunting. Together, we’ll embark on a journey of exploring your experiences to identify areas in need of support or change. I firmly believe you’re the expert in your own life; holding the knowledge and power to make meaningful changes. My role is to walk alongside you as a guide who offers support and a fresh perspective as we move closer to your goals. To do that, I am committed to creating a safe space where all parts of you are welcomed and embraced!
I am interested in working with individuals of all ages navigating the challenges of perinatal mental health, eating disorders, body dysmorphia, self-esteem, and anxiety. I am deeply passionate about improving one’s relationship with self through mindfulness practices, self-compassion, and a gentle curiosity. As a fluent Spanish speaker, I hold a special interest in supporting members of the Latinx population on their mental health journey.
Therapeutically, I believe everyone’s experience is unique. With that being said, I pull from different modalities to create an approach that best fits your needs. This may include dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) to help navigate and manage intense emotions or a cognitive-behavioral approach (CBT) to identify negative thought patterns that impact behaviors. I also enjoy pulling from somatic practices that help strengthen the mind-to-body connection.
I am currently a graduate student at the College of William & Mary pursuing a master’s in counseling degree and am completing my practicum under supervision. I am a Pennsylvania native who enjoys traveling to national parks or visiting anywhere new. When I am not studying or traveling, I enjoy cooking, practicing yoga, and volunteering for an eating disorder non-profit.
I look forward to being your partner in wellness!
Alexis will be accepting new clients in person & virtually in the state of Virginia beginning in May.
